Andy Schleck: ” The Kitzbüheler Radmarathon has enormous potential”.

On Sunday, August 27, 2023, the already 3rd edition of the Kitzbueheler Radmarathon will take place. Not only ex-Tour de France winner and KRM European ambassador Andy Schleck is enthusiastic in the run-up.

“In its third edition, the Kitzbühler Radmarathon is a mega event and it has enormous potential,” says Andy Schleck. The Luxembourger should know. In 2010, the now 38-year-old won the Tour de France and already made acquaintance with Kitzbühel during his career: “I already rode the Kitzbüheler Horn in 2005 during the Tour of Austria.” The then CSC pro finished 16th in the 10km time trial from Kitzbühel up Austria’s most legendary cycling mountain. “The mountain was enormously difficult, that’s what’s imprinted in my memory,” Schleck said.

“KRM is a perfect fit for Kitzbühel”.

As an enthusiastic fan of the Tour de France, I am particularly pleased that former Tour winner Andy Schleck is supporting our Kitzbueheler Radmarathon as a European ambassador,” says Dr. Klaus Winkler. The mayor continued: “Kitzbühel has a decades-long tradition in bicycle racing. I am therefore particularly pleased that with the Kitzbueheler Radmarathon we have been able to establish an event that is a perfect fit for Kitzbühel. Like the ski races in winter, the cycling marathon is a great challenge for all participants. The same applies to the Kitzbueheler Radmarathon as to the Streif: everyone who sees the finish line in Kitzbühel is a winner.”

“Sympathetic ambassador”

With Dr. Viktoria Veider-Walser, Kitzbühel’s TVB Managing Director says: “The Kitzbueheler Radmarathon as a selective Everyman competition fits seamlessly into Kitzbühel’s strategic orientation as a sports city with high-quality product depth in the Outdoor Active sector. With Andy Schleck, we were able to win a likeable and highly professional ambassador for our event for the first time this year.”

This year, the KRM can boast of over 1000 starters. “We are very happy about this record field of participants with many national and international riders. This shows that the event is on a very good way. We would like to invite everyone to come and see these top sporting performances for themselves along the route,” said the organizing duo Franz Steinberger and Marina Janda.

“Special bicycle relationship”

Kitzbühel and its region have a special relationship with cycling. “This summer, an attractive bike trail offer has been created in the area of our Sonnenrast cable car and Streiteckmulde, including bike transport. This is an excellent example of how successful cross-local and TVB cooperation can work. With events such as the Kitzbueheler Radmarathon, we can further increase awareness of our cycling and biking region,” said the Bergbahn Kitzbühel board duo, Mag. Anton Bodner and Mag.
Christian Wörister. Jürgen Kleinhappl of Harisch Hotels praises: “Andy Schleck is the figurehead of this year’s Kitzbueheler Radmarathon. But we are also very pleased that many local top riders will be at the start. The riders really appreciate that they get very good service and catering at KRM.”
